This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it. We try to keep it human-readable.
1. Who we are
SinglesEvents.com ("SinglesEvents," "we," "us," or "our") is operated by SinglesEvents LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company. We are the data controller for the personal information we collect through the Service. You can contact us about this policy at [email protected].
2. Scope
This policy applies to personal information we collect and process when you (a) visit our website, (b) create an account, (c) use the Service as a dater or event organizer, (d) receive emails from us, or (e) interact with us in any other way. It does not apply to third-party services linked from the Service; those have their own privacy policies.
3. Information we collect
3.1 Information you give us
- Account info:email address, password (stored as an argon2id hash — never the plain password), display name, date of birth (used to calculate age; we do not display your exact birth date to other users).
- Dating profile:gender identity, the gender(s) you're interested in, profile photos, bio, city and state, and optional fields such as height, education, profession, religion, lifestyle preferences (drinks, smokes, exercise), and whether you have or want kids. Some of this information is considered "special category" data under certain privacy laws (see Section 7).
- Organizer info (if you run events): group details, event listings, venue addresses, uploaded images, imported contact lists, and email campaigns.
- Payment info: when you subscribe or buy a ticket, Stripe collects your card and billing information and we receive only non-sensitive metadata (last four digits, card brand, country, transaction ID, amount, timestamps). We do not store full card numbers, CVVs, or bank-account credentials.
- Communications: messages you send to other users within the Service; emails and support tickets you send us; reports you submit about other users or content.
3.2 Information we collect automatically
- Device and connection: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device type, screen size, language, time zone, referring URL.
- Usage: pages and events viewed, buttons clicked, timestamps, and in-app actions (RSVPs, likes, matches, messages sent).
- Login and security events: login timestamps, outcomes (success, failure, rate-limited), IP, and user-agent, retained in an audit log for security and fraud prevention.
- Email engagement: when you open one of our emails or click a link, a small tracking pixel and/or link redirect lets us know. You can disable images in your email client to block the pixel.
- Cookies: see Section 11 and our Cookie Policy.
3.3 Information from third parties
- Google OAuth (optional): if you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your email address, name, and Google profile photo URL. We do not access any other Google account data.
- Stripe: we receive transaction metadata, payout status, and the status of any Stripe Connect account you create as an organizer.
- Service providers and analytics: technical information about your use of the Service from the providers described in Section 6.
4. How we use your information
We use your information for the following purposes:
- Providing the Service: creating and maintaining your account, authenticating logins, displaying your profile to other users, matching you with potential dates, powering messaging, selling and delivering tickets, processing payouts to organizers, sending transactional emails.
- Matching and personalization: scoring and ranking potential matches based on mutual preferences, age ranges, shared groups and events, interests, profile completeness, and activity recency. Details of the algorithm are described in our product documentation.
- Safety and fraud prevention: enforcing rate limits, detecting fake accounts and scams, investigating reports, maintaining audit logs, and blocking abusive activity.
- Communications: sending emails that relate to your account (verification, password resets, receipts, event confirmations, match notifications); sending marketing emails where permitted; responding to your support requests.
- Legal compliance: meeting tax, accounting, anti-money-laundering, and other legal obligations; responding to lawful requests from governmental authorities.
- Improving the Service: measuring feature usage, identifying bugs, improving the matching algorithm, conducting research on aggregate trends. We aggregate or de-identify data where feasible for these purposes.
5. Legal bases (EEA, UK, and Switzerland)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we process your personal information under one of these legal bases:
- Contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR): to provide the Service you signed up for.
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)): to keep the Service secure, prevent fraud, enforce our Terms, and conduct analytics that do not materially affect you.
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)):for optional marketing emails, for processing special-category data you provide on your dating profile (gender identity, sexual orientation implied by your "interested in" preferences), and for any optional feature that requires separate opt-in. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)): to comply with tax, accounting, and other legal requirements.
Where we rely on consent for special-category data, your creation of a dating profile constitutes explicit consent under Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR. You can revoke consent by deleting the profile or requesting account deletion.
6. Who we share information with
6.1 Other users
Your display name, profile photos, bio, age (calculated), city, state, and responses to optional profile fields are visible to other users based on where and how you appear (for example, on the Discover feed, in match lists, at events you RSVP to, in groups you join). Your exact birth date and email address are never displayed to other users. Messages you send are visible only to the recipient (and, where legally required or for safety investigations, to us).
6.2 Event organizers
When you RSVP to or buy a ticket for an event, the organizer sees your display name and the email address associated with your account (so they can contact you about the event). Organizers may also send you group emails through our platform provided you have not opted out. Organizers must comply with our Terms regarding how they use your contact information.
6.3 Service providers
We share data with vendors that help us run the Service, under written contracts that restrict their use of the data:
- Stripe, Inc.— payment processing, Connect payouts, subscription billing.
- Amazon Web Services— email delivery (via SES, routed through our Postfix relay).
- Cloudflare, Inc.— content delivery network, web application firewall, DDoS protection, TLS.
- Google LLC— optional OAuth sign-in for users who choose "Continue with Google."
- Hetzner Online GmbH— hosting infrastructure (servers, storage, backups).
- Cloudflare R2— off-site encrypted backups.
6.4 Law, safety, and compliance
We may share information if we have a good-faith belief that doing so is necessary to (a) comply with a subpoena, court order, or other legal process; (b) enforce our Terms or investigate suspected violations; (c) protect the rights, property, or safety of SinglesEvents, our users, or others; or (d) detect, prevent, or investigate fraud, security issues, or illegal activity.
6.5 Business transfers
If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, sale of assets, or bankruptcy, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will require the successor entity to honor this policy or will give you notice and an opportunity to object.
6.6 With your consent
We may share information with your direction or consent for any other purpose disclosed at the time.
6.7 Things we do NOT do
- We do not sell your personal information for money.
- We do not share your personal information with advertisers for cross-site behavioral advertising.
- We do not share your email address with other users.
- We do not share the content of your messages with anyone, except as described in this policy (for safety investigations or legal compliance).
7. Sensitive and special-category data
By creating a dating profile, you may provide information that qualifies as "special category" data under the GDPR or "sensitive personal information" under U.S. state privacy laws, including information that reveals or implies your sexual orientation, religious beliefs, health, or ethnic origin. We process this data only because you have explicitly provided it for the purpose of using a dating service (your explicit consent under Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw this consent at any time by editing or deleting your profile or closing your account.
We use sensitive data only to operate the Service (matching, profile display, filtering). We do not use it for advertising or disclose it to third parties for their own purposes.
8. International transfers
SinglesEvents is operated from the United States. Our primary infrastructure is hosted in Germany (Hetzner) with off-site backups in Cloudflare R2 and email delivery through AWS (us-east-2). If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States and other countries that may not have the same data- protection laws as your country.
For transfers of personal data out of the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and, where applicable, the UK International Data Transfer Addendum. You can request a copy of the transfer mechanism we rely on by emailing us.
9. How long we keep your information
We retain personal information for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy. Specifically:
- Active accounts: for as long as your account is open.
- Deleted accounts: within 30 days of deletion, we remove your profile, photos, and any User Content you can delete yourself. Some records are retained longer as described below.
- Messages: retained for 12 months after deletion for safety-review and legal purposes, then removed.
- Payment records: retained for at least 7 years as required by U.S. tax and accounting laws.
- Login audit logs: retained for 12 months.
- Reports and moderation records: retained for up to 3 years for abuse-investigation purposes.
- Backups: data in encrypted off-site backups may persist for up to 90 days after deletion before being overwritten.
We may retain information longer if required by law, if there is an open dispute or investigation, or if needed to prevent fraud (for example, keeping a record of banned accounts so the user cannot simply re-register).
10. Your rights
10.1 Rights available to all users
Regardless of where you live, you can:
- Edit your profile information anytime from Profile > Edit.
- Delete individual photos from your profile.
- Block other users, which prevents them from seeing your profile or contacting you.
- Unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in each email.
- Delete your account by emailing [email protected].
10.2 EEA, UK, and Switzerland (GDPR)
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you and receive a copy.
- Rectify inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Eraseyour data ("right to be forgotten") in the circumstances set out in Art. 17 GDPR.
- Restrict our processing in certain cases.
- Object to processing based on legitimate interests, including objection to direct marketing.
- Data portability— receive your data in a commonly-used machine-readable format.
- Withdraw consent at any time for processing that relies on consent (withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal).
- Lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. We encourage you to contact us first.
10.3 California (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know what categories and specific pieces of personal information we collect, the sources, the purposes, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it.
- Delete personal information we collected from you.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- Limit the use of sensitive personal information. We use sensitive information only to provide the Service, not for inference or advertising, which already meets CPRA's limitation requirement.
- Not be discriminated against for exercising any of the above rights.
You can exercise these rights by emailing us at [email protected]. You may use an authorized agent, in which case we will verify the agent's authority.
10.4 Other U.S. states
If you are a resident of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Delaware, or another U.S. state with a comprehensive consumer-privacy law, you have substantially similar rights: to know, access, correct, delete, opt out of targeted advertising and sale, and appeal a denial. Contact us as described above.
10.5 How to exercise your rights
Email [email protected] from the address on your account with the subject line "Privacy Request." Tell us which right you want to exercise. For verification, we may ask you to confirm information on your account, complete a short email exchange, or log in from the email on your account. We will respond within the timeframes required by law (generally 30 days under GDPR; 45 days under CCPA, extendable once with notice).
11. Cookies and similar technologies
We use only essential cookies required to operate the Service (session, CSRF, and equivalent). We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking. See our Cookie Policy for details.
The Service recognizes Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals for California residents and residents of other states where GPC is a valid opt-out mechanism.
12. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information:
- Passwords hashed with argon2id (not reversible).
- Email verification and one-time tokens protected by HMAC-SHA256.
- All web traffic served over TLS.
- Session cookies set as HTTP-only and Secure.
- Per-origin lockdown at the firewall level (only Cloudflare IPs can reach our origin) and a Cloudflare WAF in front.
- Payment card data is handled exclusively by Stripe — we do not see or store full card numbers.
- Photo uploads are re-encoded to strip embedded metadata and sanitize the file.
- Encrypted off-site backups.
- Rate limiting, brute-force protection on login, and audit logging.
No security system is perfect. If you believe your account has been compromised, notify us immediately. If a breach of your personal information occurs, we will notify affected users and regulators as required by law.
13. Children
SinglesEvents is a service for adults. Users must be at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected information from a minor, we will delete it promptly. Parents or guardians who believe their child has created an account should contact us.
14. Automated decision-making
We use an automated scoring and ranking system to suggest potential matches on the Discover feed. The system uses the preference information you supply (age range, interested-in, etc.), mutual groups and events, interest overlap, activity recency, and profile completeness. It does not produce legal or similarly significant effects about you within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR — the output is a suggestion, and you decide whether to like, pass, or message. You can request human review or contest any account-level decision (suspension, removal) by contacting us.
15. Do Not Track
Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. There is no industry standard for responding to DNT signals, so we do not currently act on them. We do, however, recognize Global Privacy Control as described in Section 11.
16. Third-party links
The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services (for example, venue pages, Stripe's hosted checkout, or organizer websites). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties, and this policy does not apply to them. Review their privacy policies before providing information.
17. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email to the address on your account and/or through an in-app notice at least thirty (30) days before the changes take effect (or sooner if required by law). The "Last updated" date at the top of this policy indicates when it was last revised. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
18. How to contact us
Questions, complaints, or requests about this policy or your personal information:
- Email: [email protected]
- Postal mail: SinglesEvents LLC, c/o its registered agent in the State of Wyoming (details available from the Wyoming Secretary of State).
If you are in the European Union and you believe we have not adequately addressed your concern, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data-protection authority.
