Safety Tips
Meeting people in real life is what makes this work — but it comes with responsibility. These tips are non-negotiable.
Before you meet anyone
- Verify who you're talking to. If a profile photo looks too good to be true, it probably is. Do a reverse image search. Ask for a quick selfie or a voice note.
- Don't move the conversation off-platform too fast. If someone is pushing you to text, WhatsApp, or Telegram before you've met, that's a red flag.
- Never send money. Not for a plane ticket, not for a sick relative, not for anything. This is the #1 dating scam. If someone you've never met in person asks for money, block and report.
Meeting in person
- First meet in public. A bar, coffee shop, or the event itself. Never invite someone to your home on a first meet, and never agree to go to theirs.
- Tell a friend.Share the location, the person's name, and when you'll check in. Most phones have a built-in “share my location” feature.
- Get yourself there and home.Don't accept a ride from someone you just met. Use your own car, a rideshare, or public transit.
- Watch your drink. Keep it with you, keep it in sight, and trust your gut if something feels off.
- Stay sober enough to think. You can't make good decisions if you're impaired.
Protect your personal info
- Don't share your home address, workplace, or financial info with someone you just met.
- Don't post your full name, phone number, or exact address on your profile.
- Be careful with photos that reveal your location (house number, mailbox, school name, gym name).
Red flags
- Refuses to video chat or meet in person.
- Stories that don't add up or change over time.
- Pressures you for personal info, money, or explicit photos.
- Escalates intimacy quickly ("I love you" in a week).
- Only available at odd hours with vague explanations.
If something goes wrong
If you're in immediate danger, call 911.
Then report the user on SinglesEvents so we can investigate and protect other users. From a profile or conversation, use the Report option. For anything serious, also email [email protected] with as much detail as you can.
You can also block users at any time — they won't be able to see your profile, match with you, or message you.
